ACCESSIBILITY CHECK was founded in January of 1995 by Teresa L. Darr and Douglas W. Darr as a response to the Independent Contract Provider (ICP) program established by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).  The firm's original focus was TDLR plan reviews and inspections, checking for compliance with the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS).  From this foundation the firm now offers a variety of services centered on accessible design and compliance issues involving the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS), ADA and ABA Standards, Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS), HUD Section 504, 2010 ADA Standards with HUD Exceptions, Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines, and ANSI A117.1.  In addition to plan reviews and inspections, we offer accessible design consultation, existing building assessments and reports, accessibility code comparisons, and accessibility training seminars.

The professional staff at Accessibility Check is composed of registered accessibility specialists (RAS) who are registered architects, architecturally trained individuals, or individuals with extensive construction experience.  Holly Respondek is the Director of TAS Services.

Accessibility Check is also certified as a WBE registered with the City of Houston, HUB with the State of Texas, and DBE with METRO.

As design professionals we have throughout our career been involved in the review and implementation of various codes and standards for building design, including those pertaining to accessibility.  We not only understand their importance, but also have dealt with the perplexities they can bring to a project.  Therefore, it is our intent to assist design professionals and building owners in the understanding and implementation of accessible design.

We believe as design professionals that we assume a great deal of responsibility for planning the physical environment, and through design should be instrumental in making the man made environment accessible.
